hi hello hey, we have the answer to your burning question: what CAN we see??
We get this question all the time when we’re getting to know people. It’s difficult to explain when we don’t know anything beyond the vision we have since blindness is truly a spectrum. To answer this monolithic question, we decide to talk about the things our eyes do well and what we struggle with. We hope you enjoy this episode as an answer, filled with examples and funny stories.
show notes
- Full disclosure: this episode was riddled with technical difficulties. Thanks to our internet, we either had poor connection or the call drop NINE times! Case worked her editing magic so you’ll only hear a couple, but that’s why she’s our editing expert!
- Head over to our instagram and check out the cute collage Case made of us in our shirts from the fundraiser! If you would be interested in more RWF merch in the future, be sure to send us a message or email us at hello@rarewithflair.com!
- Check out Case’s archived YouTube video about how she sees!
- Cass references the definition of legal blindness in the US (American Foundation for the Blind) when talking about peripheral vision
- Case and Cass talk about photophobia (WebMD), or extreme light sensitivity as part of albinism
- Cassandra mentions nystagmus (American Academy of Optometry), our involuntary eye movement
- Case and Cass laugh and compare experiences, and reference episode 5 on school
- Cass references an Instagram video by Jeremy Larson, husband of blog personality Elsie Larson. It features their daughter Nova walking confidently without probing, much like Cass as a kid! Despite what it may seem, Cass isn’t actually a klutz 😉
- During the game, Cass laughs about a boat with the name Boaty McBoatface (NY Times), which apparently has a rich history!
